Frequently Asked Questions

What is a 911inform panic button?

A 911inform panic button lets a staff member declare an emergency instantly from anywhere on site, triggering notifications to on-site personnel and first responders along with the button's precise location. Activation also initiates the automated workflows configured for that emergency type, such as a lockdown, a medical response, or a shelter-in-place.

What types of panic buttons does 911inform offer?

911inform supports physical buttons, virtual and desktop buttons, mobile app activation, desk-phone and PBX activation, and LoRaWAN-enabled wearable devices. Because coverage spans fixed and wearable form factors, staff who move throughout a building, nurses, teachers, custodial and maintenance workers, can trigger an alert without returning to a fixed station.

Do 911inform panic buttons satisfy Alyssa's Law?

Alyssa's Law, enacted in a growing number of states, generally requires schools to maintain silent panic alarms that alert law enforcement directly. 911inform addresses Alyssa's Law through multiple panic button configurations, many of which exceed the statutory minimum by adding location detail, camera access, and door control to the alert.

Why LoRaWAN instead of Wi-Fi or cellular?

LoRaWAN is a low-power, long-range wireless protocol that provides consistent coverage across an entire campus, including stairwells, basements, loading docks, and outbuildings where Wi-Fi and cellular coverage is often unreliable. Low power consumption also gives the wearable devices long battery life, reducing the maintenance burden of a large deployment.

How does the system know where the person who pressed the button is?

Wearable panic buttons use LoRaWAN and beacon technology to establish the wearer's location inside the facility at the moment of activation, so responders receive a specific location rather than a building address. Fixed buttons report their installed location. Either way, the alert arrives with a pinpointed position on the 911inform Interactive Map.

Who We Are

911inform is the only all-encompassing platform to help emergency response teams better manage communication and connected-building controls directly related to an emergency. Our solution provides emergency notifications to dispatch, first responders and key building personnel seconds after a 911 emergency phone call is placed within a 911inform geofenced building location. Our software is activated, through PBX phone or smartphone, and provides an emergency notification to all required parties, as well as the exact location (within 3 meters of accuracy) of the emergency event location. We then hand the connected-building controls to dispatch and emergency response teams, allowing them to use the video surveillance feeds, voice control systems and door access capabilities directly related to the emergency, ensuring that they can arrive on scene as quickly as possible and be better prepared when they do.
